Dear February...

Thursday, 25 February 2016

I was going to write a Monday post but then suddenly it was Thursday, where's this week gone?! Instead I thought I'de write to my good pal' February and thank them for a pretty good month:

So February, you've been the same great month you usually are and thanks for that. The first half of the month was taken up with mountains of work, which I soldiered on through pretty quick because you  know, I had places to be, people to see. During February I gave myself a good shake, I had not been my best of selves in January, I was always down and I was starting to get angry about things that I have no control over, this caused me to shut myself away in my room, crawl into bed and watch sad films. This behaviour is okay if you feel like you need a break, but I had been doing this now for around a month or so. As soon as I recognised this behaviour, I knew I had to go to a better place mentally, I started reading a new book, I went to bed early, I ate at specific times in the day, I took up yoga again, I spent less time on my computer and more time drawing and playing guitar. And now I feel spick and span, we need positive vibes in our life and when the original ones are taken away, we must make more. It's so easy to be negative and fall into a destructive cycle. Sometimes you need to step back and think about what's actually causing your negativity (most of the time it will be you). Once I was all sorted out and 'brain cleansed' I decided to go to an open mic night in town, although my two friends I dragged with me were the only people in the audience apart from the bar man, the gig went well and I have now landed myself a gig on the 1st of April, I'm over the moon, I've really missed playing to an audience and hopefully I'll get a bit of dolla' for this gig! Thank you February for the cold, crisp weather it's what we really needed after such a rainy first half to winter, it's so nice to walk to Uni in the morning and feel the sun on you, but still be able to see your breath. On valentines day I headed to Preston to see Gareth (the date was not intended) I was actually able to stay there for a week because of a reading week in which, once more I did no reading, I did however work my arse off before going so I didn't have to even think about work when I was there. It was lovely as always to see Gareth, especially after what seemed to be a very eternal 6 weeks, it was also nice to see my two other best friends who live with him, I love how they all live together because I get to see people I care about all at once and it normally turns into one big party! Speaking of parties February, you like to bring along Gareth's birthday with you and boy was it a wild one this year. A big ol' house party where I met a lot of people (and didn't at the same time because I spent a lot of the night upstairs hiding because of anxiety, fucking stupid anxiety). My best friend Emily came all the way from Northampton to celebrate with us and I just can't explain how nice it was to see her face, she makes me warm inside and I care about her very, very much. As the night got quieter I started drinking more wine and all I can remember was all of us singing Bonnie Tyler and Natasha Bedingfield at full blast at something like three o'clock in the morning, it was wonderful. The rest of my week in Preston was also wonderful and when it came to going home it was pretty hard, I tried to be brave (I also hate trains so it's upsetting in two ways) but alas I turned into 'that girl crying' on the train, yey. After coming back from Preston you gave us some more good news February, we have a house! After months of looking for either a new house or a room mate to fill this house, we found a new house and signed for it that day,I love the house and it's right opposite Lidl which I'm incredibly excited about, it also has 2 bedrooms ready to be filled which means one thing, new people and socialising but I'm actually genuinely excited about living with new people, as long as they don't live like pigs, we'll just have to see, please don't live that pig life, please.

February, you've been genuinely great, you're one of my favourite months and you did yourself justice again, well done. This is what I needed after the January blues and you helped me get past them.

How was your February?

  3. Ahh, what wonderful house news!! Congrats - all in all sounds like a good month.

Thanks for the comment on my latest post. I really must finish The Handmaid's Tale. I've got an old post on how to read more - dunno if that'll be useful for you :)

    1. Thank you I'm so relieved! And no bother I love your posts so much, I have to say I am struggling with THT a little bit, just because of Atwood's 2 dimensional writing style, I don't know if you'll agree with me on that but I don't know it's getting a bit tedious to read! And thank I'll give that a read.
